We’ve had a visitor up here on the mountain for the last 3 days…. a ‘disoriented’ Canadian Racing Pigeon!

He showed up after we had some really strange electro-magnetic happenings that I’ll fill you in on later. Looks like it affected it’s homing abilities so we wound up here on our porch. We’ve been feeding and watering it but we can’t get the complete band number other than the ‘CU’ which means its from Canada.

We’ve been helped by the 911 Pigeon Lost/Found Pigeon Alert volunteers to give us advice on how to capture the bird safely. We’ll keep you informed on what happens.

A very kind person named Ellen Walley began
911pigeonalert afew years back, she saw a need to help
Pigeons and by all means she was right and the group
has litterally exploded with rescues.
Arty is one of Ellens many volunteers that reach
out to help the Pigeon.

"We are a very buzy group of folks dedicated to helping
the Pigeon, matters not if the bird is a Racer or a
common feral found in almost every city, when called
upon all 911pigeonalert members will do there best to
help the Pigeon."

We received this wonderful e-mail from Arty on 7-3-06 along with some great pictures of his own that we'd like to share with you:

Hi my name is Arty, I am a 911pigeon Moderator, I have
been following your post concerning this Pigeon, do
you have a garage there?, if so leave the door open,
he-she may go in for protection.
I read where you thought the bird might come into the
cabin, let him-her come in, then close the way out and
grab a towel and catch the bird.
You are very kind for being so concerned about the
Pigeon, they are beautiful birds and very inteligent.
I tend to almost 30 here now that I have rescued over
the years, some are crippled and will never fly again
from there injuries.
I am simply fasinated with you folks, you assure me
there is hope for Mankind.
You shine in my eyes. god bless you for all you are
doing for this wayward bird.

Here's what we replied back to Arty:

Thank you so much Arty for helping us out trying to get this little lost bird back to its home in Canada.

Your e-mail was so very uplifting to us as well and it’s people like yourself that take the time to write to us that really makes everyone aware that we are all in this together! We love your pics and looks like you’ve done your share of rescuing way more than pigeons-keep up the great work!

We’ll let you know when we get little one contained…hopefully soon!

Take Care!

Hi, My name is Arty Tovar, I am a Pigeon & Wildlife &
Exotic Rescue & Rehab person.
My wife and I are care givers to 30 Exotics here in
our home that we have rescued over the years.
Here's a link to our webshots.

I also rescue wildlife and my passion "rescueing
Pigeons".
I was called upon by the owner of 911pigeonalert Ellen
Walley, seems there was a racing Pigeon down in
Aitkley, Mn, This bird needed to be rescued as the
person that found the bird was running out of
patients.
The town was a 222 mile round trip for me, So I filled
the tank and drove to Aitkley, There I met a very nice
man that was tending to a beautiful racing pigeon, he
explained that he had fed & watered the bird and let
the little one rest for a day, then he released the
bird to continue on His-Her way but the bird would
only fly 10 ft and go down.
So he brought the Pigeon back in and caged the bird,
he then contacted 911pigeonalert.
Mr. Olsen began telling me about the flying squirrels
that visit his bird feeder, He said he had made
friends with several of them to a point where he could
hand feed them, Then owls came down from Canada and
began killing his little friends, oneday one of his
friends showed up and her neck was injured, so he
brought her in the house, built her a nice cage and
cared for her, well she had 2 babies.
He then showed me 3 of the most wonderful little
creatures I have ever seen, the 2 babies were just
wiened, He offered me one of them, I simply could not
say no.
I named her Angel.
Angel is a southern flying squirrel, She is only 4
ounces, Angel spends alot of time with me, she crawls
around under my shirt, at times I can feel her
sleeping and don't want to move to awaken her.
Angel enjoys whole Walnuts,Pecans,Peanuts,Sun Flower
seeds & fresh fruits, I add d3 vitamins to her
drinking water and change her water daily.
Angel is Nocturnal, I can hear her playing on her
excersize wheel late at night.
I have built her a very large cage and am very afraid
when going outside with her as she is tame and won't
survive in the wild on her own.
The good lord guided me to her, So this is why I named
her Angel.
